The journey has begun, 6 months of continuous solo travel, mostly in Europe.
Iceland was the first stop. 3 nights in Reykjavik to ease over the jetlag, then 7 days driving the ring road.
About a 3hr flight from mainland Europe or the UK, Iceland’s dramatic landscape has justly put in on the “it” place to visit list.
To start this 6 month European adventure, it seemed appropriate to start at the extreme, and Iceland can certainly bring the extreme.
The plan was simple, spend a few days in Reykjavik to get over the jet lag and settle in, then rent a car and drive the ring road to explore what Iceland had to offer.
So here’s the experience, in counter clockwise approach.
By the way, if you are not a confident driver, I would highly recommend driving the ring road clockwise instead. Icelandic mountain roads rarely have any guard rails or safety rails, and so there a plenty of times, you are driving very close to an unforgiving drop-off. With so much to draw your attention, it’s easy to be daunted by the constant need to pay due attention while driving.
