Travel The Bucket List

4 days in Amsterdam

Fortunate timing found a very good friend from Florida, attending a convention in Amsterdam around the time I considered coming of Iceland. A couple of bookings later, and 2 old mates got together to catch-up, in a city designed for such. Café’s, restaurants, sightseeing, plaza’s and people watching. An excellent setting for 2 old souls to relaxed and share life’s experiences

While he completed last day of exhibiting at the convention, I took in a couple of favourites, The Heineken Experience and House of Bols. Heineken was a bit more tuned to younger generations, but House of Bols was fascinating, providing the ability to experience scents of the many and varied liqueurs and Genevieve’s Bols has been famous for.

A walk through Vondelpark was a nice way to enjoy the 30degC day, a green space with fountains, ponds and a mix of café’s and food carts.

Amsterdam seems not to sleep, and for us, the Pleins or plaza’s were a simple choice. Plenty of food, drink, and places to sit and watch the world go by.

Next day we met at the Rijksmuseum, enjoyed some air conditioning, and soaked is centuries of history.

Amsterdam is what you want to make of it, cultural, lively, relaxed or other. But there is no denying it’s charm.
