Travel The Bucket List

Travel Tips

Sharing experiences can make the world of difference. My blog entries will attempt to offer tips from specific experience, and here we can look at more holistic tips.

Bucket List travel is usually about fulfilling the desired experience, destination, adventure, attraction etc, but as cliche as it sounds, the journey can often provide more enjoyable memories than the specific goal.

Extended travel requires planning if you want to be frugal. But planning does not mean locking down every detail, simply understanding the best & most flexible resources to help you achieve your goal.

Cheap websites are great, but portals are better. Portals can display your intention, extracted from multiple cheap websites, providing quicker access to more options.

Here is a work in progress, sharing travel tips.

Resources

For Flights

Google Flights. Use “Explore Destinations” to let opportunity take you where the better deal is available. Just click on teh Red Dot and see what the flight options are. You can change to your local currency from  the menu dropdown towards the top left corner. It will often suggest cheaper nearby airports for options, and you can easily move back & forward a few days to see if a date change can provide better price or options.
Hipmunk. I love the graphical way they show the options.

Airline Ratings. Concerned about what to expect from a carrier you don’t know ?

For Accomodation

Tripadvisor. Sort by price, popularity, reviews, map, and see quotes from numerous cheap websites all in one place. You can even book via their website now.

AirBNB. I could only wish this was folded into other booking portals, but worth using for that potentially “local” experience. It’s not always cheaper than other accom, but generally more unique. Click here for my specific AirBnB Travel Tips

For Car Rentals

Skyscanner. So far, it seems to be the most flexible.

For Planning a Bucket List

Aside from finding your Bucket List inspirations all over the web :-

Google Maps. Once you are logged in, you can “save” destinations and attractions and they appear as a star on you map. You can then graphically see where all these wonderful place are. You can also click back on a starred location, and see quick facts, open times, read reviews and much more, along with use Directions to plan how to get there.
