Travel The Bucket List

2 weeks in Italy

With skiing in Austria behind me, and making my way to Egypt for an organised tour, the natural next destination was Italy, as Rome was a convenient departure airport for Cairo.

I attempted to find an Italian Dolomites ski resort to experience coming out of Sankt Anton, but train travel did not appear to offer any simple routes, instead, most appealing ski destinations (Cortina, St Moritz, Alta Badia, Val Gardena etc) required 19-24hrs of transit to get to from Austria. I eventually gave up.

So I settled instead to the below train travel agenda after leaving St Anton

4 days in Venice

2 days in Bologna to visit the Ferrari Museums and Lamborghini Museum

2 days in Florence

6 days in Rome

For the most part, this was a very relaxing time, a wind down from the pace of a ski holiday. I had fond memories of Italy from about 30 years ago, and while 2 weeks was clearly too short, it was the best I could schedule.

Being winter, the coastal towns were less appealing. A spring drive would be far more enjoyable to delve into the Amalfi coast & Italian Riviera, and I would like to get to Sicily at some point, but that remains on the Bucket List for future pursuit.
