Months of planning a 6 month adventure, and it’s your departure day. Doesn’t matter that a war has given you sleepless night, record heatwaves at your destination have caused untold devastation for thousands, or wildfires have torn through provincial landscapes. Australians & Canadians can sincerely empathise with Europe from experience.
Travel is a choice. The desire to explore, experience and immerse in someone else’s culture, regardless of what life throws at you.
Returning to a “sampling” travel format, and predominantly driving this time to get deep into the places rarely accessed by public transport, this 1st (yes 1st) 6 months sets up round 2. Discovering places the Bucket List touches on, while banking memories of longer stay returns to come.
Some places & seasons you just know you want to visit, but still have the research needed to plan the logistics. Iceberg Alley was one of those. Once you realise the alley experience off Newfoundland is a short period late May to early June, as fleeting as Cherry Blossom season in Japan, travel planning takes over.
So while awaiting this EU26 departure day via the UAE, Iceberg Alley also became Puffin viewing, into a return to Iceland and the Faroes, on the way to Frankfurt to drive 3 more sampling months through Scandinavia to eastern Europe, down through the Balkins before Italy to setup driving 30 something epic Alp passes of Italy Austria & Switzerland, which also has a limited access window annually due to seasonal road closures.
Round that off with driving through Bavaria into Czech for a round of Zamek and Spa stays; and oh look, 6 more months of travel just got booked. A Europe summer for the first time, focused again on roads & destinations that only having a car can avail, while attempting to avoid the crush of crowded “Europe Summer” destinations.
