Travel The Bucket List

6 months European travel in review

Back home a month now, and it already seems so long ago.

Whilst pursuing Bucket List destinations and experiences, Life gets in the way. My 6 months travel has re-enforced my need for a better work/life balance.

The “Journey” is so clichè but it’s so relevant. Wanting to drive the Atlantic Road in Norway set me up to driving the National Routes of Norway, one of the most stunningly beautiful landscapes & experiences and a top 6 of my 6 months travel in Europe.

So looking back, what was my top 6 experiences ?

6. Sleeping in Castles, especially Glengorm Castle & Traquair House

5. Iceland for its dramatic landscapes

4. Driving Norway

3. Seeing the Northern Lights

2. Driving a Supercar on the Autobahn

1. Seeing Carole King’s Beautiful in London’s West End

My next destination will likely be Canada. South America has much appeal, as does Eastern Europe, but I will see how the coming months progress and make some plans from there.

In the mean time, I will work through captured video and post some of those over the following weeks and months.

For the analytical, in 6 months I experienced 10 languages, 23 flights, 24 trains, 8 cars, 20 countries, 80 cities, 14 ski mountains and enjoyed countless memories. (not that i was counting 🙂

From a budget point of view, travel costs worked out roughly at :-

  • 40% Accomodation in Hotels & AirBnB’s
  • 22% Transport, trains, planes & rental cars
  • 20% Food & dining out
  • 14% Attractions & Experiences
  • 4% Cash where credit cards were not accepted.

And in following up emailed requested, I have updated The Pack to show in reflection, what I worked out was useful or surplus from the original packing for 6 months travel.

I welcome your comments, questions, private messages and hearing your experiences to help inspire me.
