Travel The Bucket List

Ski Whistler 2002

Anyone who skies or wants to ski, will have heard of Whistler in British Columbia Canada.

Whistler is famous for 2 huge mountains of snow, and so it was on the Bucket List, but our travel agent suggested and included trying another resort at the same time, Sun Peaks. Well, why not. If you’re travelling over 20 hours to visit somewhere, why not experience more ?

We did Sun Peaks first, and it was amazing. Champagne powder is how they describe it. The ability to carve through snow on your last run of the day, rather than skate through icy ruts which is the normal Australian snow experience, priceless.

Loads of accommodation choice for true ski in ski out, a quaint village with enough for most people (restuarants, grocery store, rentals and shopping). Sun Peaks is a gem. A knowledgeable travel agents recommendation was very much appreciated.

A week later, a shuttle service drove us to Whistler, and Canada didn’t disappoint for scenery.

Whistler village sits at the base of 2 huge mountains, Blackcomb & Whistler, providing a huge range of ski runs to suit every skill level. The village itself is a decent size for a snow resort, plenty of choices for eating and much more.

The first snow impression was different however to Sun Peaks. Sun Peaks had a dry powder, Whistler was a wetter & harder snow. We were told that is the usual, being so close to the Pacific coast. Still a significantly better experience than anything we had skied in Australia, but sort of a let down after the brilliant experience at Sun Peaks.

So, Whistler ticked off the Bucket List, and Sun Peaks on the agenda to return for more.

Where have you ventured, that did not quite live up to the hype & expectation ?
