Scotland The Fairy Pools

Searching for “must do” visits of Scotland, for me, the Fairy Pools made the shortlist. I enjoy a walk with purpose, and a green space. Walking for walking sake however does not appeal for fun for me.

Anyway, having left Loch Ness, and stopped by Eilean Donan Castle, I drove out onto the Isle of Skye, and made my way to the Fairy Pools.  On arrival, there was a small carpark on the right, evidently full, as there was a long string cars parked roadside, which I joined.

A procession of people made it obvious where to go, a walk down a semi steep hill, to a river plane, then a small incline up following the stream.

It takes a while to start to see what you have come for, the stream was ordinary along the plane, but as climb, the waters became clearer and clearer, until you start seeing pools of crystal clear water, the rounded rocks below setting a beautiful picture.

Increasing anticipation, you continue along the path, a couple of times hopping across small rock bridges across feeder streams, until you get to the main pools. Much deeper water, stunning in their clarity and colour.

A few adventurous visitors made the plunge in the cold waters; none of which seemed to disturb the water clarity.

I made it to the sign that said you had reached the end, turned back, enjoyed the different prospective to the pools on the return.  Some say you can do the pools in about 20 min there and 20 back, but I spend a couple of hours, and can easily recommend having it your travel plans.
