Day 6. With the agenda I had set, I chose not to stay on the east coast any further, instead heading to Husavik in the north for a whale watching and potential Northern Lights experience, so this was a long drive day, with a stop by the Myvatn Nature Baths to soak some weary bones.
My GPS gave me a “shortcut” over the mountains, which meant a long section of gravel/dirt road to navigate. Many remarkable sights along the way, grand elevations, waterfall running ravines, and a continuing to change landscape.
I was told in my travels, I should detour to Seydisfjordur on this path, a very picturesque drive, made famous as the longboarding sequence in the Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Word of mouth recommendations are always appreciated, so I did the detour, and was not disappointed
The Myvatn Nature Baths are not quite a Blue Lagoon, but given the distance, you really can’t compare if you want this experience in the north. More can be read here.
Then on to Husavik to spend a morning Whale Watching, which can be read here.
