Living in south east Queensland Australia as a child, my parents, when on vacation, would take me to Marineworld which became Seaworld on the Gold Coast, but we didn’t have Shamu.
So a Bucket List addition was to take my kids to see these magnificent Killer Whales at Seaworld Orlando.
After a few days of Universal Studio roller coasters & rides, my kids were up for anything, but The Kraken at Seaworld ratched it up a notch.
A range of other shows and experiences certainly entertained, but it was really about seeing Shamu.
The One Ocean ampitheatre was to scale with the expectation, simply huge, and with little forethought, we were intrigued to see rows and rows of the “Soak Zone” closest to the whale pool. So, we donned ponchos, and found seats about midway in this closer viewing area, getting comfortable ready for the show.
As you expect, the trainers had their routines down, and the animals performed delights, but we didn’t expect the powerful and deliberate splashing that came with Shamu’s arrival. Soak Zone was an understatement. Makes you wonder if the animals did it one day and they made it a part of the show, or if the trainers thought it would be a good idea to drench their audience.
Anyway, no end of laughter from the kids, and a Bucket List experience they won’t soon forget.
