Tasmania is rich with unique animals & birds. Whilst some encounters were at Reserves, the most memorable were simply in the wild along various walks I enjoyed..
A cruise to Maria Island was abound with wildlife, but the Wombats stole the show, this little lady in particular with a peek-a-boo little one grazing as she walked along
I joined an organised Little Penguin viewing in Burnie, great commentary from passionate guides, but when your Bicheno AirBnB host messages you to look out the front door… well, you don’t expect to see them in the AirBnB’s front garden !
All along the street, Little Penguins had crossed a carpark, made their way through a small bush, then crossed the esplanade to feed their young in borrows made in the local residents gardens.
Wow, oh, and that comes with the noise all night from the little ones calling their parents, so cute.
Then Platypus are hard to find in the wild, but when two of my Accoms (Platypus Riverside Cottage and Cambridge House) had them just “out the back”, well the sightings felt very special.
Tasmanian Devils are in the wild in Tassie as well, but endangered, so my Tassie Devil experience came at a fantastic conservatory doing very important work, Devils @ Cradle, where I joined an evening feeding tour which was quite lively. Again, lots of noises, lots of fun.
So, enjoy this brief collage of Tasmanian fauna encounters
