A short day trip from Karlovy Vary gave me opportunity to visit the largely original Loket Castle
I understand that many of these heritage buildings have either been re-built or evolved over time. Restorations can sadly take away from the authenticity. Which is why Loket Castle got on my bucket list.
Playful additions like mannequins staged in the torture chamber, and a Dragon in the towers stairwell, did not take away from the creaking floorboards, wonky wooden stairs to the tower loft, and snow covered stone staircases that still bear the worn groves of centuries of foot-falls.
A surprising exhibit, included a meteorite.
