I started out day 2 in Iceland by first getting used to driving in the right side of the road, yep, that was fun for an Australian used to driving on the left. A rental car upgrade to an auto made that a little easier. The booked manual would have added a whole other dimension to this experience.
I chose a path from Reykjavik going counter clockwise around the peninsula, and the Raufarholshellir Noas Caves were the first stop along that path.
Pulled off to the left from the main road, and straight into a free carpark. Look to the left(ish) and you will see a well trodden walking path to a hole. That’s it !
Underwhelming from the carpark, but an easy walk/climb down, and it’s a remarkable cave, mostly as there are numerous portals letting sunlight into the cave.
It was a bit damp the day i visited, so i took it slow, as there was a bit of mud about; but steady shoes were as much as was needed to wander well into this cave until the sunlight reached no further.
Caution though, this is a natural cave, not setup as a tourist attraction, so rocks underfoot can be loose. Be sensible, and you will find quite an amazing environment.
