Whenever possible, I try to break my journey with stopovers. My Finnair route provided this one, so a few days in Copenhagen was something to look forward to.
Mid November, and Xmas markets were starting here. I opted for the Copenhagen Card, a city initiative to make getting around (public transport) easier, and include many attractions you would likely want to see, but also ones that may not have met your radar, example a Classic Car Museum that was well worth the detour.
Use it enough and it easily pays for itself, use a lot & its a bargain.
The Little Mermaid was an obligatory stop, and my early walk via Kastellet had me arrive here just before a bus load of tourists. A Segway Tour I did the following day returned via here, and the crowds were excessive.
The Segway was a great way to get a quick orientation of the city.
So Copenhagen boils down to your passion for Museums and/or Palaces. The Art museum options are almost overwhelming, you would certainly need to have particular artists or genre’s in mind to ever start planning those visits.
As I prefer history & architecture, my first excursion was the more remote Frederiksborg Slt. You quickly learn how influential and supportive the Carlsberg family has been to Copenhagens history. They lovingly restored this magnificent Castle. I later enjoyed Ny Carlsberg Glypotek in the city, as a completely underestimated, surprisingly beautiful museum.
So getting down to “keeping these posts simple” 🙂 here’s a sample of Copenhagens historical beauty with Rosenborg Castle, Christiansborg Palace, Ny Carlsberg Glypotek and Frederiksborg Slot
