Last stop on the first day of driving, staying overnight at Stonehaven, I managed to get to Dunnottar Castle just before they closed the ticket office. Glad I made it.
It’s a bit of a walk from the car park, and requires a number of stairs to navigate down & up to reach this castle perched on the cliff front.
Having seen a number of restored castles, it was refreshing to see a more natural state castle. I mean, they had done a bit of work to make access safer, otherwise, it was in a natural state of ruin. Fabulous. A very enjoyable experience. There are a few buildings involved along with some nooks & crannies that tell a dramatic story.
