Day 9. Last venturing day, a little explore on the way back to accom near the airport.
First intention was a visit to Hraunfossar, and as it was on the way, a brief stop at Deildartunguhver, more natural springs, but not for bathing this time. On approach, you can clearly see the steam rising, and as usual for Iceland, a 1 minute detour had you in the car park of the attraction, some 30m from the erupting springs themselves.
I would not have made a special trip to see these springs, but as it was on the way, it was a pleasant break from the drive. Next, Hraunfossar.
Now that was impressive. Different to other falls, this was a much wider set of falls, with a strong feed to it’s right which has carved itself through the rocks. More well structured walking paths, and a couple of wooden bridge crossings which availed some excellent viewing.
With time on my side, I couldn’t help a return to Blue Lagoon, for a few more hours of soaking pleasure, before checking in at an excellent AirBnB, a good nights sleep with an early plane out.
In summary ?
This felt a little rushed, but I had plans to catch up with a very good friend in Amsterdam, and as Iceland is so expensive, it seemed long enough.
Puffin & bird watching has to be done by Mid August, Ice caves are not until December and later, so for September….
What did I miss ?
What did you discover in Iceland that I really should return and experience ?
I welcome any questions, and hope you enjoy the read and photos.
Next, Amsterdam, Stockholm, then Norway.
