The Blue Lagoon in Iceland is well publicised, and draws a crowd. So much so, that booking in advance is essential. I booked a week in advance, in early September, and the earliest arrival time slot was 7pm.
Blue Lagoon offer 4 main entry packages from basic entry to luxury VIP treatment. On the day I arrived, paying for the Premium Package, I discovered a long queue for Basic & Comfort packages, basically, better than an hour to get to register and entry to the Lagoon. Premium & Luxury had a separate and much shorter queue, gaining entry within a few minutes.
The Premium package came with a towel, bath robe, slippers and some extra’s. Now experienced, the slippers are cheap thongs which are basically a waste of your time, the robe may or may not be much use but felt nice on. Fine if you are lounging around, otherwise it’s used very little, and you can bring your own towel !
The waters are comfortably warm, silica based which gives it that delightful Blue. You can see perhaps a bare couple of inches below the surface, so don’t think about trying any underwater photos. They will sell you a plastic sleeve for your phone if it’s not waterproof and you want to take in the waters with less concern of damage.
They also provide cautionary advice that the silica in the water could damage prescription lenses.
I went back 8 days later on my exit from Iceland, and the queues were much less, so perhaps it’s the shoulder season kicking in.
I am happy to answer any questions you wish to post, otherwise, I don’t want to give it all away; that’s Your fun in discovery. Yes it’s touristy, but soo nice after a long travel to soak, sauna, steam and drench in a high pressure waterfall. The Blue Lagoon should be on everyone’s bucket list.
