When researching a 6 month travel, some things you don’t want to leave to the last minute. Like accom for Christmas, New years, or Skiing; so after reading recommendations for festive Christmas cities, Prague rose to the top of most lists. I managed to get an AirBnB apartment to myself, right on the Old Town Square where the Christmas markets were held; a brilliant location from which to explore the city
Prague has a very old world feel, cobblestone streets and laneways, meandering roads, and some beautiful architecture.
My list to visit only included a few things, with the intention to mostly sit back in a cafe and watch the world go by, easily done in Prague. So below are some highlights, the Clementinum Library, St Vitus Cathedral at Prague Castle & the Charles Bridge.
The library was spectacular, but photos are not allowed, and you can only enter about a meter and then make way for the next person, so the photo is from their website, but a realistic sight in person. that tour extends to climb numerous steep stairs to the Astronomical Tower which was worthwhile for the views.
The Charles Bridge is lively and interesting, various statues being rubbed for wishes. artists selling their wares, and the usual souveniers are available.
The Castle was disappointing, as it had been stripped of furnishings etc to make a separate “Treasury of Prague Castle” ticket; but the St Vitus Cathedral made that visit worthwhile. Spectacular.
Prague has a friendly feel about it, the streets felt safe at most hours day & night during this popular season.
And the food ! Generous sized serves of many enjoyable items.
Hi Chris,
We loved sharing the train with you from Berlin to Prague and listening to your great itinerary. We also enjoyed the Prague old world feel and the wonderful food. Our time in Venice and Vienna was also magical and hopefully completed a European trip that our granddaughter will always remember.
She may have just caught the travel bug!
