I did an overnight in Creston before heading to Big White via Kootenay Lake to Nelson.
On approach to Big White, I was stopped, as a wildfire outbreak just east of Kelowna had shut down the road. Fortunately, the turn off to Big White was open, and upon explaining my destination, I was allowed through.
I turned up at Big White on a Thursday, and aside from the wildfires cutting power to the mountain, there was nothing to do. Big White has only just opened for summer mountain biking, hosting a limited season with limited facilities open Friday to Sunday.
I have skied Big White a couple of times before, the last time in 2013, but driving around the ski resort, it clearly has become much more popular, as the housing developments were significantly greater than I have seen elsewhere for an on-mountain ski resort.
I stayed 2 nights, so the next day I did the chair to the top to check the vista’s, before heading down to Kelowna the following day.
