Banff in summer is an experience. The town is iconic and expensive to stay, but one for the bucketlist.
Street parking in Banff is limited to 2 hours, but unless you are a serious shopper or dining, 2 hours is plenty to walk around and browse.
It was the Banff surrounds that drew me more. Bow River & Falls on the way to the Gondola, Sunshine Meadows and Johnson Canyon made for great stops, as did Marble Canyon on my drive west heading to Fernie
The ski resort of Sunshine, offers a gondola & chair ride to the top, where a short walk takes you to a viewing platform over a stunning vista, Sunshine Meadows. I wanted to see Sunshine to get an idea of what it could offer in winter, but was amazed how beautiful it was in summer.
Johnson Canyon however was the sleeper surprise. I ended up doing the long walk, it was that captivating. An absolute must if you are visiting the area.
Wildfires had reports of road closures for my preferred route out of Banff National Park towards Radium Hot Springs, but 2 days before my drive that way, the road was opened, so I got to stop at Marble Canyon for one more (easier) canyon experience. Loads of great memories.
And here are highlights of Johnson Canyon
